Installing GA-TaxPro on a Network Server

Edited

This guide outlines additional considerations for installing GA-TaxPro on a network server.

1. Recommended Installation Path

  • We recommend installing GA-TaxPro on the network server in the following default folder:
    \\[servername]\[path]\S_TAXGAW\

  • The Data Folder will, by default, be located in the application folder as follows:
    \\[servername]\[path]\S_TAXGAW\DATA\

    • We highly recommend the \DATA folder to be under \S_TAXGAW folder (ie. \S_TAXGAW\DATA\). We do not recommend separating the Data Folder from the program folder

2. Verify Permissions Setup

  • Full Control Permissions: Ensure that all users who will access GA-TaxPro have FULL CONTROL permissions over the application folder

  • In addition, if you are:

    • (Recommended) Installing from a Local Workstation targeting a Network Server: Then C:\GA_TaxProLog will be created on your local PC or laptop. Enable FULL CONTROL permission over C:\GA_TaxProLog

    • Installing Directly on the Network Server: This approach entails performing the installation directly on the network server itself. In this case, you will be logged into the server and executing the installation process locally. Then you need to enable FULL CONTROL permission over C:\GA_TaxProLog on the network server.

3. Disabling Opportunistic Locking (Oplock)

4. Create Shortcut

  • On each local workstation that requires access to the application, create a shortcut targeting \\[servername]\[path]\S_TAXGAW\s_taxgaw.exe

    • Users can then run the application by clicking on the shortcut
