Installing GA-TaxPro on a Network Server

This guide outlines the setup considerations for installing GA-TaxPro on a network server depending on where you execute the installer.

Use this method if you are running the installer setup file on a local PC/workstation and directing the installation path to a shared folder on the network server.

• Installer Default: By default, the installer suggests C:\S_TAXGAW\. You must manually browse to or enter your shared network location.

• Recommended Target Path: Install directly to the shared folder using its UNC path (e.g., \\[servername]\[sharename]\S_TAXGAW\).

• Important Caveat (Mapped Drives & UAC): The setup program may not recognize mapped drive letters (such as Z:\S_TAXGAW\). Because installers run with elevated/administrator privileges, Windows User Account Control (UAC) isolates mapped drives attached to standard user sessions. If your mapped drive does not appear during installation, follow these instructions to install using the server name (UNC share).

• Application Folder: Ensure all users accessing GA-TaxPro have FULL CONTROL permissions over the target network share and folder.

• Log Folder: Since the setup is executed from the workstation, a log folder (C:\GA_TaxProLog) will be created on your local workstation. Ensure FULL CONTROL permissions are enabled for C:\GA_TaxProLog locally.

• On each local workstation, create a shortcut pointing directly to the executable on the network share: \\[servername]\[sharename]\S_TAXGAW\s_taxgaw.exe

Use this method if you are logged directly into the network server (via console or Remote Desktop) and executing the installer locally on the server.

• Default Directory: The installer defaults to the local drive path: C:\S_TAXGAW\.

• Required Utility Step (editsetup.exe): Because workstations accessing the server over the network cannot use a local server path like C:\..., you must modify the setup paths after or during installation:

  1. Locate and run editsetup.exe in the installation directory. See: Changing Data Folder or Program Folder

  2. Change the program directory path from C:\S_TAXGAW\ to the UNC network path (e.g., \\[servername]\[sharename]\S_TAXGAW\) or the network drive path that workstations use to reach this program folder.

  3. Change the data directory path from C:\S_TAXGAW\Data\ to the UNC network path (e.g., \\[servername]\[sharename]\S_TAXGAW\Data\)

• Application Folder: Ensure all domain/network users accessing GA-TaxPro have FULL CONTROL permissions on the shared \S_TAXGAW\ directory.

• Log Folder: Because the installer ran locally on the server, C:\GA_TaxProLog will be created on the network server. Enable FULL CONTROL permissions on C:\GA_TaxProLog on the server.

• On each local workstation that needs access, create a shortcut targeting the network share path configured in editsetup.exe: \\[servername]\[sharename]\S_TAXGAW\s_taxgaw.exe

• Disabling Opportunistic Locking (Oplock): If your organization has more than three concurrent users, we recommend disabling Oplock to ensure database stability. Follow these instructions to understand and disable Oplock.

• Migrating Existing Installations: If you are migrating data or settings from an existing PC or server, follow these instructions to migrate from an existing PC/workstation/server.
